What is Nolvadex?

Nolvadex (tamoxifen) is a medication used to treat and prevent breast cancer in women and men. How Does it Work?

Nolvadex (tamoxifen) works by binding to estrogen receptors in the body, particularly in breast tissue. By binding to these estrogen receptors, it blocks the effects of estrogen on breast tissue, preventing the cancer cells from receiving the signals they need to grow and divide. Uses of Nolvadex in Women.

1. Treatment of hormone receptor-positive breast cancer: often used as a treatment for women with hormone receptor-positive breast cancer, which means that the cancer cells are stimulated to grow by estrogen. By blocking the effects of estrogen on breast tissue, it can help slow or stop the growth of cancer cells and reduce the risk of recurrence.
2. Prevention of breast cancer: it may be used to reduce the risk of breast cancer in women at high risk for the disease. Studies have shown that it can reduce the incidence of breast cancer by up to 50% in high-risk women.
3. Treatment of ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS): Nolvadex may be used to treat DCIS, a type of non-invasive breast cancer, to reduce the risk of cancer returning after surgery.
